The struggle to establish basic income as a central pillar of income and social security in Canada can be traced to the 1960s, if not before. Over the past 60+ years, thousands of people have given time and money toward this cause, and today thousands more are doing the same.

As one player among many in this effort, Lanark Basic Income Network is working hard to rally public support from within and beyond Lanark County. With allies and colleagues across Canada, we strive to realize breakthroughs like a historic basic income guarantee for working-age adults, a higher Guaranteed Income Supplement for lower income seniors, and greater financial support for persons with disabilities.

We welcome your engagement in this struggle! Here are ways you can help:

Become a member of LBIN

It’s free, it’s for your lifetime, and every additional member adds to the strength of our political voice.

Talk about basic income with family, friends, and associates

The informal spreading of awareness about basic income is invaluable – what it is, how it works, how it can benefit people and communities etc.

Write to, email, phone, and/or meet with your elected representatives

Express your support for basic income and ask for support at the municipal, provincial, and federal levels. To add more power to your voice, team up with others in this work.

If writing or emailing a politician, try to express yourself in an original way: in general, mass letter-writing or email campaigns do not necessarily influence politicians.

Volunteer

Opportunities include serving on one of our committees, helping at special events, and helping connect us to people you know who may be interested in basic income. Whether you may have only an hour or two to lend from time to time, or much more availability, we welcome everyone’s time, talent, and commitment.
